I love animals and the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore. I’ve been enjoying the zoo since I was knee-high to a grasshopper. Brought my daughter when she was little. I shared my memories while making new ones with her. I love the zoo so much even went on a first date here. Now that I’m empty nesting, I like going back with my camera and recapture all those great feelings.
The zoo has changed so much over the years. From several expansions, new species, new exhibits, and loads of babies. I was very excited to hear the Main Valley had been reopened as a historical/educational exhibit. So I just had to take a stroll down memory lane.
These photos are from my visit the day after Christmas 2021. It was a chilly but clear day. Had a wonderful chat with one of the volunteers about all the things we both remembered about Main Valley. The Towson University Tiger, the Polor Bear pool, the Elephant House, the peacocks that roamed free, all the big cats and the Monkey House up the hill.
I threw in some photos of my favorite animals too. Expect posts about specific animals in the future.
